Activated Carbon acts like a sponge to adsorb harmful odors, chemicals, gases, and VOCs, and once saturated carbon can actually expel these trapped contaminants. With this in mind, Pyramid Air Solutions designed their Carbon Pre-filter Packs to stay at peak efficiency to remove harmful contaminants throughout the year. By combining the 3 ½ activated carbon/zeolite odor removal and pre-filter functions into one reasonably priced filter, you can change the Carbon Pre-filter Pack regularly (every 3-6 months) and maintain optimum odor/chemical removal efficiency and HEPA protection. Every TRACS unit comes with a typical year’s supply (3) of Carbon Pre-filter Packs. High Dosage Ultraviolet (UV) Lamps: TRACS utilizes two non-ozone producing hospital grade UV lamps located in a highly reflective UV kill chamber that continually shines on the dirty side of the HEPA filter (this is the side of the HEPA filter that the particulate and biological contaminants are trapped on). UV radiation has been proven to deactivate and destroy airborne and landed microorganisms, including molds, bacteria, and viruses. Part of the TRACS patent is the location of UV Lamps, as they destroy all microorganisms trapped on the intake side of the HEPA filter. This is very important and it is a key feature because HEPA filters left untreated by Ultraviolet Light can lead to premature HEPA filter replacement due to biological contamination of the HEPA media itself, as trapped molds can continue to grow on the HEPA. But because of the location of the UV lamps, the HEPA filter in the TRACS HEPA air cleaner can last up to six years. Because of the TRACS unique patent design it is very important to know that other brands of HEPA air purifiers that include UV Lamps are not designed like the TRACS! Other brands of air purifiers with UV Lamps cannot kill viruses, bacteria and mold spores in the HEPA filter by shining the lamps on the outside of the HEPA filter! Certified HEPA Filters: TRACS has a hospital grade HEPA filter, meaning it is individually scanned and certified by the filter manufacturer to be no less than 99.99% efficient at .3 microns. Many units use HEPA-type filters that may have HEPA media but the media is not sealed within the filter frame so the overall efficiency of the HEPA is much less; and they try to mask these inefficiencies by brand naming their filters with the word “HEPA” in it. However, unless a HEPA is individually scanned and certified, it is not a hospital grade HEPA filter and will not work at the same efficiency. Furthermore, the HEPA in TRACS is mechanically sealed within the cabinet to prevent any air bypass so that all air in the unit must go through the HEPA filter, allowing the unit to always run at full HEPA efficiency. This is why all TRACS units are tested and certified by Pyramid Air Solutions prior to shipment to show zero particles .3 microns and higher coming out of the unit, and a Performance Certificate showing the test results comes with every unit.
